Autumn In The South East United States

The weather is changing along with the color of the leaves.  This is a great time of year for the alpacas.  The humidity has dropped along with the temperatures.  The nights are in the lower 40's or upper 30's with the day temperatures reaching the upper 60's and lower 70's.

The alpacas are much more active on the farm.  They really enjoy the cooler temperatures in the morning and evenings.  It is so much fun watching them pronk around the fields in play.  The oldest girl who is about 24 years old is such a sight to see as she is playing with the youngsters.  It does me good to see her play because I know she is still feeling good.  She is my oldest alpaca so I am using her to gauge how old alpacas can get being raised in the US.  I was sure we could give them longer lives and good health with the added attention to their nutrition and the fact that they have lush pastures to graze.

I take care with my alpacas because I use all of their fiber every year.  Their fiber makes income to pay for their care and have more people using alpaca in their clothing.  Their fiber is also used for household items such as totes, laundry baskets, waste baskets and hot pads.

Alpaca socks made here in the USA are machine washable and dry in the machine.
